The count down begins....

Hello friends and family.....

We are back!!!

We are preparing for our first camping extravaganza this year! The Element was treated to a nice spa day at the mechanic and is ready for the next road trip.
Our friends are gracious enough to take care of King Taj, our black panther.

The weather Gods are sending some heat our way...and maybe some rain. Honestly, it wouldn't be a Berecz camping trip without the skies opening up and sending us into a frenzy...Bring it!

As the old saying goes...
There is no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes and equipment!

We kicked of summer with an awesome day chilling on the Aqua Lounge with our dearest friends and neighbors. Our buddie Eddie brought his own vessel and crashed the party doggiestyle!

After spending way too much money and time buying bagged ice, Jon discovered a plug in cooler (powered by an ingenious battery concoction invented by non other than Da Berecz), which allows us to camp with fresh butter and eggs for days on end.
This years addition to already perfect S'mores is fresh bananas! Amazing! Elvis would be proud..wait a minute- S'mores with peanut butter and bananas...mind blowing.

Ok, I exhausetd your attention span and leave you alone...for now

Cheers!!

Hermit Island...here we come

Camping 2012 is on! Just received our confirmation for our next trip to Hermit Island Campground- we are so excited. We were able to snatch up our favorite spot with direct beach access and spectacular water view! This time we will bring our paddleboards and bikes- we recently purchased a bike rack for our trailer hitch. Our poor Element will have to work extra hard this year with all the additional gear:)
Already creating new ideas for unique eats- Jon had built an awesome storage unit for the back of the Element to organize all our camping and cooking gear. We will make 3 course mouthwatering, restaurant worthy meals in any weather condition! No excuses!!!
Have a great spring and we will see you in the summer....

Bonjour Quebec! Rooftop camping in Canada

With just a 6 hour drive from Amesbury to Quebec, we decided to do a quick jump up to the city and check out the food, culture and cheese. We picked up 91 in southern Vermont so we could stop at the King Arthur store. After that it was a quick 4 1/2 hours to Quebec.
Crossing the border

The rain held off for most of the trip, except for at night. A dreary forecast ended up being perfect weather with sunny skies for most of the day. Our campsite was 5 minutes from downtown Quebec. Camping Juneau is the name of the campground and Pierre at the restaurant makes a great Poutine. The only thing better than french fries is french fries with gravy and cheese. Sorry, no pictures, it was a messy meal and I didn't put down the fork.

He he

We could move here, I think Taj might approve. Wonder what the mortgage for this neighborhood is...

Local Amber
La Fashionista! Vodka, Chambord, triple sec, cranberry, and raspberry

Look in the corner of the church for the wolf. They were scattered all over the city. It was fun looking for the "wildlife"

The style of the city was a mix of so many different cultures it is amazing. It feels like Amsterdam on one block, Paris on the next, Boston's north end, the hills of San Francisco or Edinburgh. Absolutely amazing.

Old meets new, with style. This is what I think of Quebec.
Hell yeah it's a monster truck with tank treads.

Hermit Island, round 2

Our Beach

Wow. When we made our first trip up to Hermit Island and pitched the tent on our site, I was wondering what all the fuss was about. Big deal. Camping on an island, whatever. Man was I wrong. As we were leaving, Jas asked if there were any openings and it seems as if someone just dropped out of a BEACHFRONT PRIME site. She took it without asking me. Good for us she did. This is the prime lot on the island. Lots of deer on the island. Late night we hear some cracking in the trees, so I tell the kids to quit screwing around and go back to their campsite. Jas has a better idea, she's going to use her camera and snap a flash of them... this is what she got.
Late night visitor.
Cilantro Lime Chicken and local corn at peak...mmmm

More "E" Camper photos.

Sorry if I double posted anything!

Camping on the Rooftop. Elevated camping in the Honda Element.
Our first trip in the new camping rig was up the coast of Maine. When we first looked at the car top tent, http://www.top-tent.com/index.html, I was skeptical it would work. Any number of problems could have ruined our trip.

I was sure that the tent would,
A. Fly off the top of my car on the highway.
B. Rip off the roof-rack.
C. Collapse on both of us as I climbed into it.
D. Inflate and fly away with a small gust of wind.

Happily, none of those things happened. It was secured down really tight and I didn't even notice driving around with it after a couple of days. As far as collapsing, I was way off. This thing is secure. Of course it is on your car, so if you start rocking side to side, you can see how the thing is going to move.

Here is the way the tent looks when it is packed up on top of the car. It looks just like those cargo boxes made for large SUV's. It doesn't weigh that much, about 130lbs.

When it is time to open up, all you have to do is undo the straps that hold down the vinyl cover and unzip it. Grab the ladder and pull down. Done. Check this out.

Once it is up all you have to do is put in the steel spring rods to extend the awnings. It can be tricky at first, but the great thing about the Element is that you can kind of climb all over it and put footmarks anywhere.

You can see there is plenty of room under the overhang for space to keep things dry if it starts raining. Maybe the additional tent might be added later.
After sleeping in it for multiple nights, we both feel it was almost as comfortable as our futon at home, and we could stay on the road for much longer than we could sleeping inside the E, or on the ground in a tent.

We just used a down comforter as a sheet, and it was just like sleeping at home. I promise more interior pics next trip.

This tent changes the way we are going to camp. We can set up in 5 minutes tops, and break down in less time. We always have everything we need with us inside the car, and we can just pick up and go wherever and whenever we want. No trailer, no tents, it is so easy. All we had to do was relax and enjoy Maine.

Thanks Marcel and Bea for the hammock!
